The Writers Room Project

The writers Room Project

Through my collaboration with the nonprofit organization WordPlay Cincy, we successfully partnered with Aiken High School to transform a teachers' lounge into a creative haven for students. Witnessing the mental exhaustion of these young individuals, I realized the importance of providing them with a space where they could freely feel and express themselves. To address this need, I converted the writers' room into a vibrant multi-media art studio, offering not only writing workshops but also opportunities to paint, draw, record music, create podcasts, and simply rest. It was disheartening to learn that due to budget constraints and limited resources, the 7th and 8th grade students lacked an art class. However, we were determined to fill this void and empower them to cultivate their artistic talents, ultimately fostering their personal growth and well-being.

Inside the writers room

Student talks about how Success isn't just about getting rich. It's about having a safe and secure home for your family and making sure they are taken care of. That's true success.

Finding Inspiration

In the vibrant art studio, students huddle around colorful palettes and wield brushes brimming with potential. With sparks of inspiration in their eyes, they eagerly engage in lively conversation, discussing their latest creative endeavors. Their voices ripple with excitement and admiration as they exchange ideas, techniques, and unconventional approaches to their craft. The air hums with the energy of collaboration, as students explore unexplored avenues and push the boundaries of their artistic abilities. In this welcoming space, the art studio becomes a melting pot of creativity, where students dare to venture beyond the realm of convention, embracing the sheer joy of getting imaginative.
